BENEFITS AT A GLANCE Therapeutic riding uses equine assisted activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of people with disabilities. It provides benefits in the areas of education, sport, recreation, and leisure opportunities. Physical : Horses produce rhythmical multidemensional movement that recreates natural human movement. This movement facilitates the activation of postural control, balance, motor and sensory systems. Emotional : Contact with the horses and horsemanship training provides a noncompetitive setting for learning. New abilities, self- discipline and improved concentration build self-confidence. Social : Horseback riding helps nurture a positive self-image. Riders may, for the first time in their lives, experience some independence and a sense of being part of a team. Weather working with a horse from the ground or in the saddle the benefits are numerous!
